Every year at the beginning of April, the Magnolia Meadow of Arboretum Wespelaar is a truly spectacular place for the lovers of these beautiful trees. You can see different varieties of Magnolias in bloom, with white, pink or yellow blossoms of all shapes. The magnolias bloom usually during the first two weeks of April here (although they are very sensitive to cold temperatures that may occur still during this time).
Arboretum Wespelaar was open to the public in 2001 and on the area of 20 hectares, visitors can see a collection of over 2,000 woody plants from all around the world that survive in the local temperate climate. Besides Magnolias also species such as Acer, Tilia, Betula, different varieties of pine trees, huge Sequoia trees, or Rhododendrons are widely present. With its collections of both common and rare species, Arboretum Wespelaar is a member of Botanic Gardens Conservation International, contributing to the conservation of rare and threatened species.
Visiting Arboretum Wespelaar is a very nice idea for a half-day trip from Brussels, especially in this period of a year. Since a few years, I was aware of this place but never managed to visit it on time! And so this year we finally made it and found some of the blossoming trees at their best. The weather was quite pleasant also, which added to the great experience. I will not talk much in this post as I think the pictures speak for themselves, what do you think? Here are some shots we did, I hope you will enjoy them and that you can get to visit this place one day! ?
The Arboretum Wespelaar lies a few kilometers East from Brussels and is easily accessible by either car or public transport. You can find more information on their official website. If you want to see Magnolia Meadow in bloom, come during the first two weeks in April, otherwise autumn can be very colorful here too.
