In the evening after visiting Cava Codorníu and Villafranca that you might have read about in the previous post, we arrived in the place where we booked a stay for the weekend. Comarquinal Bioresort Penedes is a charming rural guesthouse in the middle of nature, but still not far from a small Catalan village San Quintín de Mediona, lying 40 km from Barcelona 30 km from the beach in Sitges.
Upon our arrival, the owner greeted us and spent about an hour with us just walking and showing us around (I mean only the guesthouse and the garden). The interior in rural Catalan style is impressive as the attention is given here to every little detail. The rooms are very cozy and if you open the cute little window, you may hear a goat.
This place is hidden between pine forest, olive trees and vineyards and the location is ideal for walking hikes, biking or horse riding, or simply relaxing. If you come here to relax, you will love this place! The large beautiful garden is divided into several parts with some seating or relaxing stuff. I also loved to lie in the hammock in the shade of a huge beautiful tree, reading a book. There is also a huge swimming pool where several people can swim. We only shared it with our Flemish neighbours though and it was always pleasant to spend 2 hours under the Spanish sun around the water. For those who play tennis, there is a tennis court that you can use as well.
The breakfast was served every morning in the garden. In a small shelter, there was a buffet prepared by a lady – there were fresh fruit, bread, fresh croissants (the best ones I have ever eaten in Spain!), jams, yoghurts, cereals, Spanish cheese and ham, some veggies and drinks.
As I mentioned earlier, there are not only goats but a small farm on the other side of the guesthouse with a collection of animals. Apart from the two goats, some chicken, one pig, two gooses, a horse, a pony, an ostrich and a deer live here.
